Blockchain Technology Research Innovations Corporation earned GuideStar Platinum Seal of Transparency

January 17, 2018

We are pleased to announce that BTRIC earned the Platinum GuideStar Nonprofit Profile Seal of Transparency, the highest level of recognition offered by GuideStar, which is the world’s largest source of nonprofit information. Check out our new Platinum profile here:

By identifying metrics that highlight the progress that BTRIC is making toward our mission, BTRIC is helping donors move beyond simplistic ways of nonprofit evaluation.

“BTRIC is committed to full transparency in our operations, finances, governance, and making the materials we produce available for use under open licenses, such as the MIT license for software and Creative Commons license for other content”, said BTRIC Executive Director Benjamin F. Beideman. “By meeting the disclosure standards of GuideStar Platinum level, we demonstrate our commitment to sharing more information about our organization than over 99% of nonprofits listed by GuideStar. As we progress on our initiatives, we will continue to share a wealth of up-to-date organization metrics and other information with our supporters as well as GuideStar’s immense online audience, which includes donors, grant makers, our peers, and the media.”

To reach the Platinum level, BTRIC made extensive information available to GuideStar on its Nonprofit Profile:

  • basic contact and organizational information;
  • in-depth financial information;
  • qualitative information about goals, strategies, and capabilities; and
  • quantitative information about results and progress toward its mission.

BTRIC offers a unique value proposition to the fast-growing space of emerging technology businesses. As a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt business incubator focusing on emerging technologies such as blockchain distributed ledger, Internet of Things, and Artificial Intelligence, it offers donors a tax-deductible means of supporting promising projects in completing their R&D stage.

BTRIC infuses these projects with best-practice guidance and provides them with development funds and infrastructure for research and development. When the projects are ready for launch, they are divested from BTRIC as separate business entities, and donors to those projects, subject to applicable laws and regulations, may become investors in the newly-created business. Partners that worked with the projects through the incubation phase may be able to continue their relationships with the new business. (All projects that are divested as businesses will be subject to full legal compliance based on the jurisdiction of their divestiture.)

By making the commitment to Platinum-level GuideStar information disclosure, BTRIC demonstrates its commitment to transparency and to giving donors and funders meaningful data to evaluate the organization. BTRIC is committed to full transparency and governance based on concentric circles, and will promote that model in other projects it works with.

“I encourage you to visit our profile on GuideStar to see what we’re all about,” said Chairwoman of the Board of Trustees, Terri Lei Beideman. “We’re thrilled that our GuideStar Platinum Nonprofit Profile and its associated benefits help us better communicate our organization’s exciting initiatives at a global scale.”

BTRIC Founding Donor Token (BFD) fundraising campaign

BTRIC is currently conducting a fundraising campaign to fund its launch and 2018 operations costs. It is doing so as an “Initial Donor Offering”, a fundraiser where donors are given an amount of an Ethereum ERC20 token as a gift for their contribution. About Blockchain Technology Research Innovations Corporation

Blockchain Technology Research Innovations Corporation (BTRIC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization that is devoted to fostering emerging technologies, through business incubation and other initiatives, that decentralize the control structures that have entrenched global systems for centuries.

Through our business incubation program, we identify, foster, research and develop projects that leverage emerging technologies to create a better world. We infuse these projects with best-practices guidance and work with all stakeholders — innovators, engineers, advisors, marketers, partner organizations, and donors — to bring next-generation, “Internet 3.0”, projects to life. When a project has completed the incubation process, it separates from BTRIC and becomes an independent business, ready for investment, growth, and prepared to shatter paradigms.

Our other initiatives focus on promoting women and greater diversity in projects, standardizing regulatory compliance, and facilitating the development of standards that promote the common good of all projects in our space. Our work is released under open licenses, and we invite participation from anyone interested in governance or any other aspect of our work. Our finances, policies, procedures, and activities are fully transparent.

Contributions to BTRIC — monetary, asset, and in-kind — may be tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. Consult with a qualified tax advisor for more information.
